it took volkswagen one year and a half to unveil the production version of the 2004 geneva motor show concept c / whereas the eos appears to be aesthetically less slender and muscular than the concept car, it has still kept its key feature : a unique five-piece retractable hardtop / this novelty has already been validated by supplier webasto on the oasys vision study though / the backlight and its side pillars indeed slide above the roof arches and retracted roof panels / still this system has a shortcoming : it reduces the room for the rear passengers, as the long roof arches are partly stored in the body's flanks / however, in coupé mode, the front roof panel may slide like a genuine sunroof : the eos is the only production coupé/convertible with such an asset

based on the golf platform, the eos offers a wide gasoline and diesel engine range / only time will tell if it will be as successful as its convertible golf ancestors
