ferrari has developed a convertible version of the 575m, fitted with a rotative roof inspired by the one designed by leonardo fioravanti for his alfa romeo vola concept-car / the roof has a carbon-fibre structure and includes two glass panels / at the touch of a button the roof rotates onto the boot lid within 10 seconds / the top panel is made of special electrochromic glass, developed with the help of saint-gobain / the driver may select 5 different levels of opacity, and only one minute is enough to go from dark to light
the superamerica shares most of its chassis and powertrain with the 575m, except the more powerful engine which comes from the 612 scaglietti / as for the berlinetta, the gtc handling package is available and includes carbon-ceramic disc brakes, sportier suspensions, larger wheels and a tuned exhaust
a prototype is supposed to have been introduced to a happy few during the pebble beach concours d'élégance in august 2004, and the limited-production final version will be unveiled at both detroit and los angeles motor shows in january 2005
